Want a modern-yet-rustic decoration? This flower vase is perfect. The tall glass vase and colored rocks give it a modern feel while the burlap ribbon really adds a rustic touch. Also, by simply changing out the colors of the flowers, you can customize this DIY to fit the theme of any room. This project is too simple to pass on, so I'll stop rambling and we can get started!
What you’ll need:
- tall clear cylindrical vase
- rocks*
- fake flowers*
- burlap ribbon
- colored ribbon*
- hot glue gun
- scissors
- wire cutters
*pick colors that will match the color scheme of the room you plan to put this in!
Step 1: Roll out some of your burlap ribbon and place the vase on top. Take both sides of your burlap ribbon and wrap it around the middle of your vase. Once you know how long you'll need your ribbon to be, cut it and put it to the side.
Step 2: Take your colored ribbon and make it the same length as the burlap ribbon. No need to measure it around the vase because your burlap ribbon has already been measured to fit. Once you have both ribbons cut to size, take your glue gun and put a dot of glue on each end of the colored ribbon. Glue it to each end of the burlap ribbon and let it dry. Once the ribbon is dry, wrap it around the vase again and glue the ends together so it fits snugly around the vase. Make sure this part is in the back.
Step 3 (optional): If you want to add something extra to your vase you can make a cute and simple bow to glue onto the front. See my post on How To Make A Cheat Bow for a quick tutorial.
Step 4: Time to fill the vase! First trim your fake flowers with wire cutters. Once they fit in the vase the way you'd like them to, place them in and hold them up while you gently pour the rocks in. It's easier to put the flowers in first because sometimes the rocks don't cooperate when you try to put the flowers in them. Once everything is in place you're all done!
I hope you like how your vase turned out! I'm going to put mine in my apartment kitchen to match our red theme. I also love the little bow on the front! It's such a cute addition to this simple decoration. As always, show me your re-creations and let me know if there's something you'd like me to make next!
